Kyoto's Imperial Palace
1681 Map

Kyoto's Imperial Palace is depicted in the bottom right, with the residences largely kept blank to the northwest of the palace.

Through the Tokugawa Period, maps of Kyoto would feature blank spaces to avoid depicting elite quarters like those of the Emperor and the Shogun.
